South Shore Furniture, Popular Collection, 5 Drawer Chest, Natural Maple Reviews

    1. this product was below a star. If you use this product it will fall apart, not made of anything but hard paper. save your time and money. I expected this product to be of poor quiality, I wasn't disappointed one bit.

    2. As the title to my review suggests, this is my first review. So unhappy was I with the process of building this thing, that I HAD to log on and review it. One important thing to keep in mind as you read my very short review and my thoughts on the assembly:It was SUCH a horrendous affair that it literally overshadowed every other aspect of my purchase. When I bought this, I honestly wasn't expecting much. A simple dresser for what I needed. As a matter of fact, it's going into a room that already had three other dressers that are bigger than this one.But the wife and I needed another efficient space saver, and the low top of this dresser can be used as extra space too for our growing Blu Ray collection. Point is, as a dresser, it serves it's function. It's there and the thing looks like it will hold up longer than the warranty (which isn't very impressive either). One thing to note about this unit in particular is that the drawers fit so tightly into the unit that the drawers come out with a bit of effort, not much, but it shouldn't require any effort at all to pull an empty drawer. (What can you expect though, the sliders that the drawers sit on are made entirely of plastic).Look, the unit is cheap and this is a classic case of "you get what you paid for". I can look over the shoddy design with the plastic slides on the drawers and even the ridiculous four knobs on the first draw; the knobs serve no purpose whatsoever, the first drawer is the EXACT same size as the others. What really sets this apart is the way this unit came to us. My wife and I have built many other things together before. Sometimes the instructions have been unclear or we later recognize we didn't quite understand what the instructions were telling us to do. But this time, the instructions (if you can even call it that) are so completely vague, you're forced to guess as to what to do next. I'm not a handyman by the definition of most, but as a guy growing up in a lower income home, I do have at least an average understanding of the way things SHOULD be built. This unit's set of instructions however, consisted of not ONE complete sentence of instructions per step. You were forced to decipher the next step by the picture you saw (which was black and white and seemed to be the 500th copy of a 500th copy) and the 7 word sentence fragment they gave you.As if that wasn't bad enough as it was, you are also then treated to another helping of suck salad by them not even thoroughly drilling holes for your screws to go into. I literally had to drill the holes that they haplessly left half drilled. These people were obviously in a rush when they constructed it, and it shows painfully.Another, smaller inconvenience is the fact that the parts don't come organized at all. An example: They will label a certain screw "221" and then tell you to "Put 221 in R3". That's not even an exaggeration, that's really how badly the instructions read. Instead of separating all of the 221's and the R panels and etc, they just separate the parts that are used to create each drawer. A simple tag on the bag says "set for one drawer". But that's the ONLY organization you'll have. You'll spend the rest of your time trying to figure out what's a 221 and what's a 23. It's a big mess when you combine it with the other problems this unit has.Bottom line, it's a cheap dresser that of course will do it's job after you construct this disaster. Putting it together however, will require your own drill, a ridiculous amount of improvisation on your part, and a TON of guesswork. But like I said, you get what you pay for.

    3. You get what you pay for, and in this case it's average. It matches the set well- looks good- but remember that particle board is cheap so you do need to use caution to not scratch or dent. Plastic tracks and knobs, stiff running drawers and again- a VERY easy to scratch surface. My son likes his furniture, my husband found it easy to put together in under 2 hours. He only required my help once to line up the pieces properly. It seems to be very sturdy though and I do think that if the surface holds up to a bedroom with two boys (ages 6 and 3!) in it that the actual structure of the piece will last until they are mature enough for better quality furniture.

    4. Item arrived within a timely manner. Relatively Difficult to assemble, missing the back peice, and very flimsy. Not a super high quality piece of furniture. Probably would not recommend this item.

    5. We bought this dresser off amazon for our babies nursery. They sold the same one on walmarts website, with free site to store, but it was cheaper through Amazon and delivered right to our door step. It did take my husband two days to put together, with a lot of grumbling, but after it was put together it's very strong and looks great. Definitely a great deal for the price.
