If you're only going to buy one pricey thing for the nursery I think an organic mattress is the smartest buy. After doing research on green baby items I was shocked to read about the chemicals that are in standard crib mattresses. I knew I did not want my baby breathing that in night after night. Being a new parent is challenging enough without having to worry about how to avoid everyday products that are hazardous to their health and development. We need healthier industry standards, so that being "green" is not a luxury. But until then, the Naturepedic mattress is a great alternative. It is well made, fits the crib perfectly and best of all it is free from toxins. Love it!!

This is absolutely one of the most important items for a nursery! Besides the fact that it is so much more healthier than common cheaper mattresses you can buy anywhere it fits the crib nice and tight and even has square corners so there are no gaps anywhere. The firmness is as it should be and although it came wrapped in plastic, after removing I didn't notice any smells. I did let it air out a few days before letting my daughter sleep on it though just to be safe. If you want the best for your child I highly recommend putting the extra money towards this mattress since babies spend so much time with their tiny noses so close to it for the first couple years.

While researching baby mattresses, I was HORRIFIED to learn that most baby mattresses are laden with potentially dangerous chemicals. Trust me, I wasn't jazzed about dropping $300.00 on a mattress, but since our baby spends at least ten hours a day on it, we felt that we had no choice but to bite the bullet. I'm so glad that we did. I sleep better knowing that our baby boy isn't inhaling toxic fumes all night long. And he sleeps very soundly on this mattress with a little smile on his face, so it must be comfortable for him. Best $300.00 that we ever spent.

The "seamless" mattress is a unique idea but I noted a few minor issues when I received it. First, there were a few hairline creases/cracks across the plastic surface. The cracks didn't appear to go all the way through the plastic material but were damaged slightly at the surface. It looked like the plastic material had been sort of crumpled or bent up in storage and then something heavy had been placed on top of it, causing stiff creases/damage, before it was stretched flat over my mattress. It was flat and not uneven though and I was 9 months pregnant and did not want to deal with returning a mattress so I decided it wasn't a big deal and that it looked safe. But I do worry that those creases or minor cracks will be stress points that will develop into REAL cracks after the mattress has been used for a few years. The second issue I noticed upon carefully examining all the heat seals is that there was one tiny spot where there appeared to be a tiny gap in the seal. Not a huge deal again but for something that claims to be 100% sealed, bodily fluids and such COULD in theory penetrate the mattress through this tiny gap in the seal , even though it's on the side/corner of the mattress and pretty unlikely. The third thing I noticed was that since the seal is on the corners of the mattress, the mattress is square instead of slightly rounded at the corners. The platform support on my crib is held up by metal pieces that sit at a slant so when I place the mattress in the crib, the metal pieces push right into those rigid corners and cause the corner material to kind of crumple inward. Since these crumples cause the corner material to crease, I envision that the stress on those creases over the years also has the potential to create cracks in the plastic surface, allowing mites and such to penetrate the interior.Overall, however, I love the mattress. It's really firm without being too hard. My daughter sleeps well on it and has been using it for 8 months and it does not appear to have sunk at all in the middle. I always feel like her head is well supported and she has plenty of "breathing room." I have covered the mattress in an organic mattress protector for extra protection against bodily fluids and such penetrating the mattress somehow. Hopefully my decision to ignore the very tiny lines due to former creases on the mattress will not come back to bite me in the long run.I also called customer service to ask a mundane question and was surprised to talk to a real human being immediately. There was no navigating through an extensive phone tree or waiting on hold for an hour. Gotta love "Made in America!"

this was a great find after reading all the toxins that regular mattresses have. this one is great, it is seamless so less dust collects. Also, the firmness of the mattress is perfect. our baby sleeps without a peep through the night. he is very comfortable in it. its a great investment as our baby will use it for a couple of years. I would rather spend more on the crib mattress than the crib, since babies sleep so many hours.
